Meet the Principal
MGM is led personally by its founder, Michael Mitchener — a second-generation builder who has worked job sites alongside his father, “MGM Senior,” since he was old enough to swing a hammer. That start grew into more than 20 years of combined field and management experience, including over a decade focused specifically on construction management.
Michael cut his teeth as a young carpenter on high-end residential — from multimillion-dollar, 5,000+ square-foot beachfront homes in Waikoloa to an 8,000-square-foot-under-roof ranch estate in the hills of Hāmākua — before expanding into commercial work with some of Hawaii’s largest general contractors. Along the way he has managed every phase of the project lifecycle, from preconstruction and budgeting through procurement and on-site management.
While luxury residential and high-end craftsmanship remain Michael’s true love in construction, the allure of new and exciting projects is a source of perpetual intrigue. A natural problem-solver, Michael is ever on the lookout for a challenge that will expand his skillset and open the door to the application of cutting-edge means and methods. At MGM, the objective is to entertain any truly captivating projects, regardless of their construction “category.”
